  • Won career high of 10 tournament titles and on 4 different surfaces.
  • Was the first man since Lendl in 1987 to hold the no. 1 ranking for one calendar year.
  • Became the first player since Rod Laver in 1969 to win three Grand Slams in a row (1993 Wimbledon, 1993 U.S. Open, 1994 Australian Open) defeating Todd Martin in the final of the 1994 Australian Open.
  • Had a 29-match winning which ended at the World Team Cup losing to No. 2-ranked Michael Stich.
  • On June 13, held a 2412 pts lead over no. 2 ranked Michael Stich, the widest margin between the 2 top spots.
  • In his Wimbledon tune-up at Queens, reached the finals before losing to Todd Martin
  • During the Wimbledon finals, Sampras’ serve was not broken and he faced only two breakpoints.
  • The first player since Boris Becker in 1985 & 1986 to win consecutive Wimbledon titles.
  • By the end of Wimbledon, he already qualified for the year ending ATP World Championship, the earliest ever.
  • Won his second career clay court title at the Italian Open, defeating Boris Becker in the final 6-1, 6-2, 6-2.
  • At Key Biscayne, defeated Andre Agassi 5-7, 6-3, 6-3. Prior to the match, Sampras suffered stomach upset and Agassi agreed to delay the match.
  • Sidelined for 6 weeks due to tendinitis in his left foot and a right hamstring injury, he withdrew from 4 tournaments leading to the USO.
  • Returned to the circuit at the USO and was underprepared. Lost to Jaime Yzaga in the 4th round 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-7, 5-7.
  • At the Davis Cup semifinals against Sweden, he withdrew due to injury
  • signed up with Nike and wore long, baggy shorts on court
  • named ATP Player of the Year and ESPY Best Male Tennis Player of the Year
